Before Three 6 Mafia there was Triple 6 Mafia and before that was DJ Paul & Lord Infamous. Early Memphis rap cassette bedroom recordings circa '90 - '94. Lyrically focused on marijuana, mysticism, and pussy with haunting and hypnotic production that is so blown out and intense, it's kind of funny to imagine that this would lead to a career that would eventually win DJ Paul a fucking OSCAR AWARD for Three 6 Mafia. Insane. But this music is a far cry from the cleaner and more clinically precise sound of his later work. This is rare and vintage outsider/regional/timeline-specific music that could be filed with any of the higher end historically based music compilations that end up in record store employees' and internet nerds' libraries i.e. Sublime Frequencies, Light In The Attic, etc. When they were creating this music it was truly new and brave and free and stupid and REAL.
